The Quintessential You

by Jesse Shanks

How can I paint her?
I have never seen her face
But with electronic canvas
And keyboard under hand
I endeavor to capture
In color impressions
A picture of my rainbow, you

Yellow
For the warmth like the sun
On a chilly day
Orange
For compassion
Her caring about everything
Red
For fiery desire
Which she often provokes in me
Green
For the jealous flash
I feel when her attention diverts from me
Blue
For reason
Her clear-eyed intellectual precision
Purple
For the deathly longing
I feel at her absence from me

A spectrum of colors I have found
But they make very poor palette
There's just no doubt about it
To capture
The quintessential you
